Lab Research The Knowledge Technology Lab (KTL) at the School of Education is exemplified by its human, technological, and physical infrastructure capabilities. Our lab enables MA and PhD students and researchers to think, design, develop, explore, and research in an interrelated array of areas, including learning, cognitive process, and advanced technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, tangible technology, smart controlled devices, and robots. We believe that research and development of learning systems based on unique advanced technologies can enhance, support, and establish the cognitive process for people with and without special needs. Our lab has specific experience in designing user interfaces for users with special needs and in recording and analyzing quantitative and qualitative research data. Its research results have been recognized at national and international levels. Examples of our projects include: • Haptic and auditory virtual environments supporting construction of a cognitive map and orientation and mobility skills for people who are blind. • Listen to Complexity, investigating how people who are blind perceive and learn through sonified computer-based representations, for study and exploration of complex scientific complex models. • Autistic children programming robotic behavior as an instrument to improve ability to cope with change.
