Personality based tailored learning paths using learning analytics for raising satisfaction level in online academic courses

Project description

The frequent presence of online courses in higher education learning programs, especially with the coronavirus outbreak, alongside with learners' diversity, arises the question: is online learning as it currently offered, suitable for each learner? The variety of techno-pedagogical learning solutions (pedagogical activities which offer through various technological tools) makes the design of diverse learning paths for online courses much simpler these days; The differences between learners can be reflected by their personality, which influences learner's preferences and satisfaction with the learning process. Therefore, it seems that personalized and personality-based courses will positively affect learner's satisfaction.

Our research will explore an academic online course that will offer the students variety of techno-pedagogical learning solutions. Their satisfaction with each learning solution will be measured as well as their connection to personality types (using the "Big-five" personality model). Some behaviors are connected to human's personality, so we believe that one's personality can be identified based on his digital "tracks" while using the learning management system. Our study aims to identify the learner's personality type using learning-analytics methods, and then to adjust personality-based learning path, which will help to design online learning courses, and perhaps to raise the learners' satisfaction level.

We believe that our research will help to create better learning environments for online learners and will help us make sure that no learner will be left behind, whether he\her likes online learning or not.

About me

After years of developing learning programs, instructional designing and adjusting technological solutions for the learner's preferences and needs, I decided to focus on learning personalization. My main research activity is in the field of academic online learning, learning programs development, learner's personality and learning analytics. My background in Psychology and Management (BA) as well as my academic degree in Learning Technologies (MA) is extremely beneficial for this research. These days, during my Ph.D. studies (at Tel Aviv University School of Education), I am focusing on personalizing online learning experience based on the learners' personality traits using learning analytics methods.
